Stream TV with a Raspberry Pi – here’s how it works

Anyone with a traditional TV connection can stream linear TV for free on their network using a Raspi and Tvheadend software.

Despite the overwhelming variety of series and movies available on various streaming services, there’s always that one TV show on commercial TV that you can’t stream anywhere else. But maybe your receiver has been removed for a long time, or unfortunately you don’t have a suitable satellite dish connection in your room.

With a Raspberry Pi 3 or later and a USB receiver, you can stream TV shows to your network. To do this, use the Tvheadend software (download), which allows you to manage your TV receiver, search for channels and share them via a graphical web interface.
