WhatsApp, one of the world’s most popular messaging platforms, is constantly adding new features to keep its users entertained. In line with this, WhatsApp has added a message transcribe feature for the convenience of its users. This information was announced in a WhatsApp blog post on Thursday (November 21).
This new feature allows voice messages to be easily converted to text.
According to a WhatsApp blog post, voice messages can be converted to text “so you can continue with whatever you’re doing and talking to.” These transcripts are created on your own device. So no one else, not even WhatsApp, can listen to or read your private messages.
Supported languages - Currently, the Transcribe feature is supported on Android in English, Portuguese, Spanish, and Russian. On iOS, the feature is available in French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Turkish, Chinese, and Arabic. And in iOS 17 and later, support for Danish, Finnish, Hebrew, Malay, Norwegian, Dutch, Swedish, and Thai will be available.
How to use this feature – First, you need to turn on the voice message transcription feature by going to WhatsApp Settings > Chats and selecting the desired language. Then, hold the message and tap on the Transcribe option. If you need more space to view the transcription, tap on the expand icon on the message.
WhatsApp says that it may take some time to display the transcription. Also, if you get the message ‘Transcript unavailable’, it may be due to lack of language support, unclear speech, or background noise.
The new feature will be rolling out globally in the coming weeks. More languages will be added to the feature in the future.
