Adani buys Air Works for Rs 4000 crore

Adani Group acquires Air Works for Rs 4000 crore

Gautam Adani has taken another major strategic step. The Adani Group has acquired Air Works for Rs. 4000 crore. The company has several key capabilities in the defence MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul) sector in India. Air Works executes projects for leading defence organisations like the Indian Navy and the Air Force.

Adani’s acquisition of Airworks for Rs 4,000 crore is set to further expand the Adani Group and play a key role in the defense and commercial aviation services sector. Airworks will operate in 35 cities and have a workforce of over 1,300. With this, Adani Group will further enhance its capabilities in the defense MRO sector.

Air Works already offers a range of services for fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft. This includes several departments including line maintenance, heavy checks, painting, redelivery checks, and avionics. The company provides its services in more than 20 countries. In addition to these, Air Works also demonstrates key capabilities in defense MRO.

Is Adani Group ready for the challenge?

Competitors for the Adani Group include GMR Aero Technics and Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. “The Indian aviation industry is in a transition phase, now the third largest globally and on track to add 1,500 aircraft in the coming years,” said Jeet Adani, director, Adani Airports.

“Adani Defence Systems & Technologies Limited (ADSTL) has signed a share purchase agreement to acquire 85.8 percent stake in Air Works, India’s largest private sector MRO company,” Adani Group said in a statement.

Gautam Adani said, “The Indian aviation industry is currently in a transformational phase. It is poised to become the third largest aviation market in the world.” This acquisition will provide the Adani Group with further capabilities in the aviation and defense sectors.

This strategic step by the Adani Group will not only strengthen India’s MRO capabilities, but also strengthen it as a self-reliant nation in the domestic defense sector.
