Comfortable cordless phones for Fritzbox are very popular. AVM has just launched the Fritzfon X6, the successor to the popular C5. The DECT phone is packed with features that go beyond just making calls. Seamless integration into the Fritzbox ecosystem makes it the central control element of your smart home and multimedia center. We have tested the X6 thoroughly.
Facilities and operation
The X6 has a modern and slim design. Its compact size fits comfortably in your hand. The 2.4-inch color display provides clear images and is easy to read. The keyboard is illuminated and provides a comfortable touch. Up to 300 phone entries can be stored on the device.
In addition to excellent voice quality thanks to HD Voice and full-duplex hands-free functionality, the X6 also wins points for its features: it has five remotely accessible answering machines and supports Internet services such as e-mail reception, web radio and RSS feeds. Particularly practical: Smart home devices such as radiator thermostats and lamps can also be controlled via the X6 if they are registered in the Fritzbox. Handy baby monitoring is also possible with the phone for around 85 euros.
It’s easy to operate with a clear menu. In addition to the usual phone functions like speed dial, three-way conference and call list, the X6 has some handy features specific to AVM. For example, when you receive an incoming call, it can announce the name and number if you wish. The favourites button on the side allows you to access important functions with the touch of a button. Voice quality during calls is very high thanks to HD Voice and noise cancellation, whether using the handset or the hands-free function. Internet calls via the Fritzbox also work perfectly thanks to support for the SIP standard.

The color display impresses with its sharp image and excellent contrast. Practical: Brightness and motion sensors dim the display when not in use to save power. According to the manufacturer, the maximum reach is 300 meters outdoors and 40 meters indoors. This corresponds to our test experience. The useful features worked reliably in our tests, but only some of the smart extras proved to be practical in practice.
Price
In a price comparison, the X6 is listed from about 83 euros, but about 85 euros on Amazon. This is expensive compared to other devices, but we think that it is worth the extra cost when combined with the Fritzbox.
