At the end of the year, many AVM devices will receive the current FritzOS 8, including Fritzsmart gateways.
AVM is now offering the current FritzOS 8 on most Fritz boxes. A few more models have been added in the past few days and weeks. The following are now supported:
Fiber + DSL: 5690 Pro
DSL: 7690, 7590 (AX), 7583 (VDSL), 7530 (AX), 7520, 7510
Fiberglass: 5590 Fiber, 5530 Fiber
Cable: 6690 Cable, 6670 Cable, 6660 Cable, 6591 Cable
Cellular: 6850 5G, 6850 LTE
No Modem: 4040
Smart Home Bridge: Fritz Smart Gateway
In some cases, AVM also distributes FritzOS update 8.0.1 instead of 8.0. This version contains model-specific bug fixes. After a firmware download failure, the update should be requested again correctly. Manufacturers have also fixed some compatibility issues, for example with Asus’ 10 Gigabit network card XG-C100C.
FritzOS 8 is currently missing only for Fritzbox 4050, 4060, 6890 LTE and 6820 LTE – at least if you follow the models that AVM still classifies as current.
What’s new in FritzOS 8 In FritzOS 8, the web interface gets a new overview page with a graphical display of connected clients and their connection usage. From there, you can prioritize individual devices to which Fritzbox should prioritize forwarding internet packages. Device names can now be edited directly in the Mesh Overview, not just for home networks, but also for guest networks.
