The Imperial Dabman OR 3 is an emergency radio, Bluetooth speaker, power bank and camping lamp in one. This test shows why crank radios are so convincing.
The housing looks very robust and is protected against water according to IPX6. This makes the radio a serious outdoor device. However, it is large and heavy with dimensions of 119 x 209 x 91 mm and a weight of 830 g. The crank left the strongest impression in the test field. Its slender design, reminiscent of a lantern, is unusual. The top of the housing has a handle for hanging the dynamo radio.
Device
When you pull out the top of the radio, the “lantern” appears and lights up immediately. When you press and hold the SOS button, a high-pitched alarm sounds and the two flashlight LEDs light up red and blue. The top of the case has a solar panel that is significantly larger than other devices. A full charge takes hours.
This crank radio offers FM and DAB reception, plus Bluetooth for connecting to your phone. An LCD display is available. The two speakers together draw about 14W (RMS) and provide decent sound, best in the test field. The outdoor radio can also be used as a Bluetooth speaker for vacations or small parties. The battery capacity is a generous 5000mAh. The device charges via a USB-C port and also has an output for a USB-A plug to use as a power bank.
