A massive fire broke out in the Secretariat Building No. 7. Important documents of several ministries were gutted in the fire. A few hours earlier, another fire broke out at midnight on Wednesday (December 25). It was at the secretary’s residence in the capital’s Eskaton area. Two units of the fire service rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control.
On Thursday (December 26), Fire Service Media Cell Officer Anwarul Islam Dolan confirmed the information and said, “We received news at around 8:20 pm on Wednesday that a fire broke out in the kitchen of a house on the 4th floor of the 20th floor of the Secretary’s Residence building on Eskaton Garden Road. Later, two units of Siddiq Bazar Fire Station went to the spot and brought the fire under control. Initially, the cause of the fire was not known. Besides, no one was injured in the fire.”

Meanwhile, a seven-member committee has been formed to investigate the fire incident in Building No. 7 of the Secretariat. The committee was formed on Thursday. The committee has been asked to submit a report within the next seven working days. This information was revealed in an office order of the Administration and Discipline Branch of the Cabinet Division of the government.
The office order states that the committee can co-opt one or more members if necessary. The committee will submit its report within the next seven working days. The convener of the committee is Mohammad Khaled Rahim. He is the Additional Secretary (District and Field Administration) of the Cabinet Division. The member secretary is a representative of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works (not below the rank of Joint Secretary).
The committee members are representatives of the Public Safety Department (not below the rank of Joint Secretary), representatives of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief (not below the rank of Joint Secretary), representatives of the Local Government Department (not below the rank of Joint Secretary), representatives of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, and representatives of the Fire Service and Civil Defense Department.
